In 2005 Alamiyah began as a home-educating parents' group. Today it runs a nursery and home education centre, following the closure of its independent primary in 2025.
In 2005 home-educating parents in east London began learning together with their children. They wanted an education shaped by a love of knowledge and a strong moral foundation. Educational professionals joined them, and by 2011 the project had grown into a small nursery.
The parents chose Montessori because it matched what they saw in their children: deep concentration, repeated practice and the desire to do things independently. A prepared environment gives that natural drive room to grow.
Islamic faith was present from the beginning. The parents saw Montessori's respect for the child reflected in fitrah, the innate God-given disposition of every child. Wudu sits within Practical Life, while adab is practised through Grace and Courtesy. Read more about how these traditions meet in our approach.
In 2017 Alamiyah opened an independent primary at the same address. That part of the organisation closed in 2025.
Earlier Ofsted records do not cover Alamiyah Montessori or Alamiyah Home Education Centre. See the dated record and the FAQ for current information.
“To create a natural holistic environment that is spiritually nurturing and physically nurturing the whole child, intentionally. Our foundation is built of Iman, Ihsan and Islam, instilling true love.”
Alamiyah rents its premises, limiting space and directing funds towards rent. A building owned by the charity would give the nursery and centre a stable home for generations.
