In 2019, Alamiyah ran paid professional development in its building for practitioners from other settings.
On 1 April 2019, Pete Moorhouse, an Early Years trainer and author on woodwork and creativity, ran two half-day courses here. One covered setting up and maintaining a woodwork area that children aged three to eight can use independently. The other covered creativity and critical thinking.
Eight days earlier we ran a course of our own. Conscious Parenting was built on the prophetic example, Montessori practice and the Adlerian Positive Discipline approach, and it was delivered by trainers certified by the Positive Discipline Association, one of them Saahera Motara, now Executive Director.
Alamiyah created Conscious Parenting to share the Positive Discipline approach used by staff and families.
Spend a morning in Alamiyah Montessori during the uninterrupted work cycle. Observe the prepared environment, then ask questions. Visits are kept small and arranged around the children.
A practical day based on the 2019 course, covering the prophetic example, Montessori practice and the Positive Discipline approach. It is for parents and practitioners who work with parents, and runs when there is a group. Ask to be notified.
Days for other settings on preparing an environment, observing and recording what a child does, and behaviour without rewards or punishments. Some are led here and some by a visiting trainer, as in 2019.
Observation mornings take place in Alamiyah Montessori, led by Nadia Begum, Deputy Manager and lead Early Years guide. She holds an AMI Montessori diploma 3-6, and protects a long, uninterrupted morning work cycle.
Visitors see Alamiyah Montessori as it is used each day. For older children, Alamiyah Home Education Centre offers a mixed-age, Montessori-informed environment.
For current Ofsted information about Alamiyah Montessori, see the FAQ.
We keep visitor groups small and arrange them around the children.
