For families at Alamiyah Montessori and Alamiyah Home Education Centre. It sets out why music sits in the early years day, what children take part in, and the position at the centre.
Children between the ages of 0-6 years have sensitivity towards developing the auditory sense; they naturally show an interest and inclination to activities, which involve rhythm and beat. During this stage, it is important for children to not only develop an understanding of pitch, rhythm and beat, but to refine it to the best of their individual potential.
Like art, music is a form of communication and can serve the purpose of a means to expression.
At Alamiyah children are provided with a rich auditory experience through the many songs and rhymes sung daily, musical activities to develop rhythm and beat, as well as the opportunity to learn to play the drum.
Songs are sung in both English and Arabic to provide an even richer experience rooted in the cultural background of the children.
On full day sessions, a whole group circle time takes place at 11:30pm with singing and stories.
The Monday afternoon session, 2.00 to 3.30pm, is drumming and singing. Nasheeds, devotional songs and poetry, are sung there and through the rest of the week alongside Quran, Hadith, Duas, Arabic and Seerah. The afternoon sessions are charged separately from the mornings.
Alamiyah will provide: childcare and learning support for 2-4 mornings a week, for no more than 27 weeks a year and tutors in English, Maths and Science to support your child's home education.
